March for Our Lives, Plus Vigil The young people who spearheaded the world-wide marches and rallies on March 24 showed excellent organizing skills and offered well-informed programs. Conservative David Brooks was impressed in his New York Times op-ed. These events bode well for the future of nonviolent opposition to killing. The top photo has CLN Board members Tony Masalonis, Lisa Stiller, and Julia Smucker holding our banner at the march. The middle photo is from our Vigil at the US Capitol the night before; the roses are for the Parkland students who were killed, and the carnations are for everyone who has died in other US school shootings from Columbine on. On the bottom is a group photo taken right before the March started.
Here we have a photo of a sign found on Facebook from someone else in the March, connecting issues:
Grassroots Defunding – Alternatives to Planned Parenthood In our ever-evolving web site for this campaign, we’ve web-researched those PP centers in New York State that have no Community Health Centers (CHCs) nearby to see if we could find other potential alternatives. We’ve listed those new possibilities on this page. New York has a high concentration of this problem: a quarter of New York’s PP centers have no CHC nearby, and this is a fifth of all such centers throughout the entire U.S. People from other states who have such centers may want to look to see how this was done. We need to have this research done all over, and anyone who just takes a few minutes to search the web in their own locale and gives us the information to put on our site will have made a tremendous contribution to the campaign. You can find your own state listings here.

Sarah Terzo (pictured) offers How Ableism Led (and Leads) to Abortion. The history leading up to legalization of abortion includes the dangers of birth defects from the drug thalidomide and the disease rubella, thus using bigotry against people with disabilities to assert the “benefits” of killing them. This is Part 1. Part 2 will cover ableism and euthanasia.
Quotation of the Week David Brooks The Abortion Memo, The New York Times, February 1, 2018 This is presented as a memo to “Democratic Party Leaders” from an “Imaginary Democratic Consultant.” David Brooks is a conservative writer. Millions of Americans became single-issue voters. They consider the killing of the unborn the great moral issue of our time. Without pro-life voters, Ronald Reagan never would have been elected. Without single-issue voters who wanted pro-life judges, there would never have been a President Donald Trump. I understand that our donors (though not necessarily our voters) want to preserve a woman’s right to choose through all nine months of her pregnancy. But do we want late-term abortion so much that we are willing to tolerate President Trump? Do we want it so much that we give up our chance at congressional majorities? Do we want it so much that we see our agendas on poverty, immigration, income equality and racial justice thwarted and defeated?
